Owls Sweep Season Series With 8-3 Win Over UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Kennesaw State baseball team beat UAB on Tuesday night 8-3 to sweep the season series between the two schools and solidify their spot as the No. 22 ranked mid-major team.

KSU would go down 1-0 in the bottom of the third when Keith DePew came around to score on a RBI single from Ivan De Jesus.

The Black and Gold answered with their first run to tie the game in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Will Howard that advanced Ronnie Freeman into home. Taking the lead in the sixth inning, Freeman lifted his fourth homerun over
the left center field wall to put the squad out in front 2-1.

The Owls would open the game wide open in the seventh with six runs on four hits. With two outs in the inning, Aaron Dobbs belted an RBI double that scored Jacob Bruce. After an RBI single by Freeman and an error by the Blazers defense that allowed another run to score, Andy Chriscaden smashed is team high 12th homerun of the season. A three RBI bomb, Chriscaden put KSU on top 8-1.

Despite allowing two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a pinch-hit triple by Tyler Mims, Andrew Austin closed the door on UAB in the ninth to preserve another mid-week win for the Owls.

Ronnie Freeman proved to be the offensive leader for the Owls on Tuesday night as the junior went a perfect 5-for-5 from the dish with two RBI and two extra base hits. Chriscaden extended his hit streak to 11 games and moved to No.10 in the country with 48 RBI’s on the season.

Kevin McCoy picked up his first victory of the season, tossing the first six innings, allowing one earned run off four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts to improve to 1-3 on the season.
