KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s baseball team will travel to the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Tuesday for the second match-up of the season. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. C.T at Young Memorial Field as the Owls look for a season sweep.
The Black and Gold are coming off an impressive stand at home, winning the series against Belmont, 2-1. KSU ignited the weekend with a 9-8 walk-off win on Friday on a hit by senior Jordan Craft, and rekindled the flame on Sunday as Craft was clutch at the plate yet again with a game winning sacrifice fly. The Kennesaw native lifted a fly ball to left field with the bases loaded to score Andy Chriscaden and boost the score, 4-3, in favor of the Owls.
The weekend triumph puts the squad in a tie for second place with the Bruins in the conference standings, as both teams trail USC Upstate by one game. KSU’s performance has also earned them a No. 22 ranking in the Mid-Major poll for week 10 of the standings.
In their last showdown, the Owls (26-17, 12-6) defeated the Blazers (23-18, 4-8) with a grand slam by Ronnie Freeman that elevated the team to their third straight come from behind win in a 7-3 victory. KSU is looking for that same success on Tuesday, as the Owls have won seven of their last nine games.
Senior Andy Chriscaden leads the attack for the Owls, as he blasted his 11th homerun of the season this weekend, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Chriscaden now leads the Atlantic Sun Conference with an impressive 45 RBI’s for the year.
The Blazers are coming off a 2-1 series win over Gardner-Webb this weekend, dropping the final game on Sunday, 5-1. Tuesday’s match-up will mark the first of a five-game UAB home stand when the Owls come to town.
On the mound for the Black and Gold will be Kevin McCoy. McCoy pitched three solid innings last Wednesday against in-state rival Mercer, allowing only one hit and zero runs.
