KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team nearly made a late inning comeback to complete the sweep over Stetson. Dropping the game 9-7, the Owls still remain tied for first in the Atlantic Sun conference standings.

For the first time of the series the Owls struck first. On a 2-0 count to lead off hitter Aaron Dobbs, the senior took a fastball left over the fat part of the plate over the right center field wall to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 advantage.

Kennesaw would take a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning after Andy Almonte hit his fifth homerun of the season. Having thrown four scoreless innings with five strike outs, Owls starter Kevin Kyle found trouble in the fifth, allowing three runs, including a towering homerun by Ben Carhart that tied the game.

The Hatters would take the lead in the seventh inning with two runs and added four more in the ninth to take the lead, 9-3.

The bottom of the ninth was full of excitement, as the Owls would score four runs in the frame. Andy Chriscaden would add for the most dramatics as he lifted his ninth homerun over the left field wall to bring the squad with in three. Chris McGowan then followed with an RBI double down the left field wall to make it a 9-7 game.

Unable to complete the comeback and the series sweep, the Owls dropped an important conference game 9-7. The team still sits tied for first with Belmont in the A-Sun standings, with an important series with Bruins approaching this weekend.

The Owls return to action on Tuesday as Jacksonville State comes into town.  Kennesaw previously won the three game series between the two schools, taking two of three games from the Gamecocks earlier this season.

Tuesday will also be Tuesday Tax Day, as all fans receive half off admission, making all tickets $3. For updates on the mid-week match-ups, you can follow the team on Twitter @KSUOwlsBaseball.
