KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team took the series against A-Sun foe Stetson on Saturday afternoon as the team captured a 11-7 victory over the Hatters.

For the second day in a row the Hatters struck first. Platting two runs on four hits in the opening frame off starter Zak Griffith, Stetson gave Stetson starter Lindsey Caughel a 2-0 lead.

The Owls would respond as Will Howard delivered a bases-loaded double to right center field that scored Aaron Dobbs and Andy Almonte to tie the game. KSU would tack on one more run on a sacrifice fly by Andy Chriscaden to take the lead 3-2.

Stetson tied the game again in the second inning with an RBI single by Spencer Theisen and added two more in the third to jump out to a 5-3 advantage.

KSU followed with back-to-back RBI hits by Jacob Bruce and Dobbs in their portion of the inning to tie the game 5-5.

Each team would go scoreless for the first time of the game in the fourth inning, but in the fifth, Kennesaw would take the lead for the second time on a single by Dobbs.

Jumping out to a 10-5 lead at the end of the seventh, the Owls tallied four in the inning to take a five run cushion into the final two innings. Howard again was the supplier as the senior roped a triple to straight away center to clear the bases.

The Hatters would get one run in the eighth and another in the ninth, but it wouldn’t be enough, as the Owls would win 11-7, and take the season series from Stetson.

Senior Zak Griffith, in his second start of the season picked up the win. Tossing six innings and allowing five earned runs, Griffith struck out seven batters en route to his fourth win of the season. Relief pitchers Justin McCalvin and Andrew Austin did their job as they closed out the final three innings for the Black and Gold.
