KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team will return to Atlantic Sun play on Friday against Stetson, as senior Josh Carr will take the mound in search of his eighth straight victory.
Carr currently sits behind only Trent Blank of Baylor for the most wins in 2012 with seven. Still having not lost since opening day, the senior bolsters a 7-1 record, with a 3.23 ERA and 40 strikeouts on the season. The star right-hander will match-up against left-handed thrower Austin Perez (1-2, 4.24).
Kennesaw (20-15, 8-4) is tied for second in the conference with Lipscomb, while Stetson comes into the series (22-10, 5-4) in fifth as the last team with a winning record in conference play.
The Hatters return nearly the entire team from 2011 when the team won 43 games. Of those 43 games, the same staff that returns to the diamond for 2012 won 42. The conferences most successful team, Stetson has claimed eight A-Sun titles and has made 16 NCAA Regional appearances.
KSU is coming of a 9-4 win and season sweep over Alabama State on Wednesday. After losing a pair of one run games to Lipscomb this past weekend, the Owls picked up their offense with eight hits, including a grand slam in the third inning by Chris McGowan.
The Black and Gold offense is still garnering national attention as the team is ranked in the top-30 in Home Runs (No. 28th – 24), Hits (No. 25 – 336) and Doubles (No. 28 – 67). Individually, the Owls have several athletes atop the offensive categories as well. Ronnie Freeman is No. 8 in the country with 38 RBI, while Andy Chriscaden is No. 38 with 34. Chriscaden also is ranked No. 36 in doubles with 12, where as Aaron Dobbs is No. 10 with 21 stolen bases.
On Saturday, KSU will send Zak Griffith (3-1, 1.41) to the mound to throw against Lindsey Caughel, and on Sunday Kevin Kyle (0-3, 3.86) will match-up versus Will Dorsey.
The first 250 fans to enter Stillwell Stadium on Friday night will receive a free Kennesaw State baseball key chain. Live video/audio can be viewed on A-Sun TV and KSU All-Access.
