KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team beat Alabama State on Wednesday night by the score of 9-4 at Stillwell Stadium. This moves the Black and Gold to 20-15 for the season and completes the season sweep over the Hornets.
The Owls got off to a quick start with two runs in the second inning on a Max Pentecost double that scored Andy Chriscaden and Will Howard. Adding to their lead in the third inning, KSU loaded the bases for a grand slam to right center field by Chris McGowan. This marks McGowan’s fourth homerun of the season. Hart would later score in the same inning off a sacrifice fly by Howard to put the Owls ahead by seven runs going into the fourth.
Although Travis Dean only pitched two and third innings in his first start of the season, he struck out one batter and didn’t allow a hit as he would be in line for the win.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Alabama State answered with three runs. Sophomore Drew Duncan handed the ball off to Colton Cross, as the freshman would pitch the long haul of the game. Allowing one run to the Hornets offense, Cross would get the Owls
out of the inning with a 7-3 advantage.
The Owls fought back with a run in the bottom of the fourth with Jacob Bruce coming home after an RBI single to center by Aaron Dobbs. The sixth inning brought another run in for the Alabama State after Emmanuel Marrero stole two bases to score on an RBI. This would be the final run for the Hornets as the Owls would hold Alabama State to just two more hits in the final three innings.
Kennesaw State would rack up one more run for the evening off a Freeman single up the middle to score Hart. Pentecost and Hart led the Owls, each picking up two hits. Pentecost had two RBI to go with his multi-hit night, while McGowan totaled four RBI with his one deep shot. The Black and Gold pitching held the Hornets to just six hits with Dean getting his first win of the season.
