KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth, to sweep North Florida on Sunday, with a 4-3 come from behind win.
The Owls would find themselves down 3-0 early as the Ospreys struck for two runs in the second inning and another in the fifth. Bouncing back in the sixth inning, KSU put one on the board on an RBI single by
Ronnie Freeman that scored
Peyton Hart, who had doubled earlier in the inning.
Owls starter
Kevin Kyle did a tremendous job of holding UNF with in striking distance. Tossing 100 plus pitches in 7.1 innings of work, the lefty struck out seven on the afternoon. Relief pitcher
Justin McCalvin would throw 1.1 innings of hitless baseball to give the Black and Gold one final shot at redemption.
After a lead off walk was issued to
Chris McGowan, followed by a single from Andy Chriscaden, Kennesaw would bring the winning run to the plate. With one out in the inning,
Max Pentecost would hit a sharp ground ball to the shortstop Joe Iorio, who made a costly throwing error to second. All the runners moved up a base on the play, including McGowan, who scored and made it a one run game.
KSU would tie the game 3-3 on a Kody Belcher sacrifice fly, and would bring
Aaron Dobbs to the plate with two outs. For the second time this season, the senior delivered with a single through the left side, and scored Pentecost to complete the sweep in thrilling fashion.
Offensive leaders for the Owls on Sunday were Hart, who had three hits in the game. Chriscaden continued his success at the plate as well, as the senior is now hit in nine consecutive games, while tallying 18 RBI.
The Owls are 13-4 in their last 17 games and sit atop the conference standings in a tie with USC Upstate, as the team gets set for a midweek match-up against cross town rival Georgia Tech.
Tuesday’s match-up against Georgia Tech will be the second time the two schools have squared off against each other this season. In a weekday game in February, the Yellow Jackets beat the Owls 11-5.
