MARIETTA, GA. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team continues to improve as it pushed its winning streak to five matches after a dominating 7-0 win over Mercer on Saturday afternoon at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center.

The win improves the Owls to 11-6 (3-2 A-Sun) for the season, while the loss drops the Bears to 2-9 (0-5) on the year. The Black and Gold now hold a 4-2 edge in the all-time series with its in-state rival, and they have also won four straight against MU.

Kennesaw State made quick work of Mercer in doubles play as the Bears only had five players which forced them to forfeit No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Senior Vera Shkundina and junior Therese Lagerkvist clichéd the doubles point by blanking Mercer’s No. 2 doubles team, 8-0.  Sophomore Alexandra Apostu and freshman Virginie Stein took home a double win as well at the No. 1 spot, 8-4.

In singles action, KSU won all six matches including two 6-0, 6-0 results at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots by freshman Jana Hueckinghaus and Lagerkvist.

Stein made quick work of Mercer’s Amanda Bertani at the No. 3 singles position, 6-2, 6-0 to improve her singles record to 14-3 on the season. The Gevelsberg, Germany native leads the team with those 14 wins, and she has now won five straight singles matches overall.

Kennesaw State will take its five-match winning streak on the road as it returns to action on Apr. 6 in Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate.
