Men's Golf Finish Fourth at Linger Longer

GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team concluded the Linger Longer Invitational with a fourth place finish, after carding a 873, +9 total.

The Owls posted a 54-hole score of 286-292-295=873, +9 at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation. Tallying 49 sub-par scores over the weekend, Kennesaw’s finish bettered two top-30 programs.

Senior Jeff Karlsson was the top performer with an eighth place finish. Posting a 67-72-74=213, -3, Karlsson dropped after leading the tournament through 36-holes.

Matt Nagy finished tied for 10th after shooting a 70-71-73=214, -2. Jonathan Klotz placed tied for 31st with a 72-75-75=222, +6, while Jimmy Beck placed tied for 40th at 77-74-74=225, +9. Kelby Burton tied for 60th with an 82-78-74=234, +18.

Competing as individuals, Austin Vick finished tied for 23rd at 74-73-72=219, +3, while Sam Curtis placed tied for 31st after carding a 73-73-76=222, +6.

Alabama repeated as Linger Longer Champions, as the Crimson Tide posted an 838, -26 to beat Georgia who placed second with a 852, -12. Chattanooga (870, +6) wrapped up with a third place showing ahead of the Owls, and Oklahoma (879, +15) rounded out the top five.

Alabama’s Cory Whitsett repeats as the individual medalist as he wins on the fourth playoff hole over UGA’s Nick Reach. Whitset fired a final round 64, -8 to come from 20th place.

Kennesaw will return to action Apr. 9, when the team travels to Memphis to compete in the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club. For updates on the Intercollegiate, you can follow the team on Twitter @KSUOwlsMensGolf.
