Karlsson in First, Owls sit Fourth

Seniors lead KSU in first two holes

GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team concluded rounds one and two of the Linger Longer Invitational on Saturday in fourth place at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation after posting a 286-292=578, +2.

On a gorgeous day when you couldn’t ask for better golf weather, the Owls relied on their seniors Jeff Karlsson and Matt Nagy to lead the charge. Karlsson posted a 36-hole score of 67-72= 139, -5 to sit tied at the top of the leader board. Finishing round one with four consecutive birdies, the senior aims for his first medalist honors of 2012.

Nagy remains tied for seventh after carding a 70-71=141, -3 on day one. Recording four birdies an eagle on the afternoon, Nagy will also be in the hunt for the Linger Longer individual title.

Jonathan Klotz turned in a 72-75=147, +3 to place tied for 24th, while Jimmy Beck sits tied for 45th with a 77-74=151, +7 and Kelby Burton (82-78=160, +16) is tied for 68th to round out the scoring for the Black and Gold.

In individual action, Sam Curtis is tied for 22nd after turning in a 73-73=146, +2. Austin Vick is also competing as an individual and is tied for 24th at 74-73=147, +3.

For the second consecutive year, No.7 Alabama heads into the final round as the team leader. Posting a 564, -12 total, the Crimson Tide lead No.25 Georgia (569, -7) and No. 28 Chattanooga (577, +1). The Owls sit fourth (578, +2) and Notre Dame (582, +6) round out the top five.
