KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State track and field team will travel to Athens, Ga., to compete in the Georgia Relays Friday and Saturday at UGA’s Spec Towns track facility for their third meet of the outdoor season.
This will be The Owls first appearance at the Relays since 2009, just before the Spec Towns Track underwent a $3 million complete renovation following the 2009 season. The 400-meter track now features eight 42-inch running lanes, which are BSAF Conipur MX full depth.
The renovated facility also features two completely re-designed throwing circles with cages, five vaulting areas, four expanded long jump areas, along with two javelin runways, a shot put area, two high jump pits and an underground storm retention drainage system.
Western Michigan, East Tennessee, Troy State, Northern Kentucky, Georgia State, Georgia and Mercer will join the Owls for the event.
The men are looking to build off their success from last week’s Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational where the Black and Gold had first place finishes across the board. In the throws, Tyler Crow placed first in the Hammer with a distance of 38.91, while his teammate Hendrik Themas also collected a first place performance in the Javelin (51.71m). Senior Kendall Parks continued his reign by capturing first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.36, earning him Atlantic Sun Conference Honors for the week.
On the women’s side, senior Brittany Robinson dominated the track with a record-breaking performance in the 800 meter with a time of 2:11.58, breaking her previous record set in 2010 by more than three seconds and earning her a solid first place finish. The 4x100 team of Latia Daniels, Kentrell White, Cynthia Davis and Victoria Jackson also set a school record of 46.08 in their first place efforts. Junior Suzee Mills added to the women’s success, with her first place showing in the Discuss (38.86m), Hammer (47.16m) and the Javelin (40.86m) and was named A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week for her efforts.
The two-day meet will kickoff Friday with the men’s hammer throw beginning at 1:00 p.m. For updates on the Georgia Relays, you can follow the team on Twitter @KSUTrackFieldXC.
