BRADENTON, Fla. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team dropped both opening round matches of the Callaway Match Play Championship on Sunday at the Concession Golf Club.
In the opening round, the No. 11 seeded Owls fell to No.6 Indiana 3-1. Senior Jeff Karlsson took the first point for KSU with his 6&5 win over David Mills, while junior Ben Greene halved his match against Corey Ziedonis.
The remainder of the Owls lost tough contest as Matt Nagy dropped his match by losing by one hole. Jimmy Beck lost 3&1 to Brant Peaper, while Peder Lunde Hermansson lost 4&2 to David Erdy.
In round two the Black and Gold lost 3-2 to Arizona State. Nagy closed out his match at No.1 with a 4&2 win over Spencer Fletcher, while Hermansson picked up the team’s second point with a 6&4 victory over Cameron Palmer. Karlsson lost 6&5, where as Beck and Greene each lost by one hole.
"I was very pleased with the way our guys battled through in their matches," head coach Jay Moseley said. "We had a chance to pull out both matches but just let things slip away late in our rounds. We need to be sharper with our execution and play solid throughout our rounds. It's disappointing to lose twice today, but we still have a good chance to take away some positives from this week."
Kennesaw will play in round three of the Match Play on Monday as they are set to faceoff against the No. 15 seeded UNC Wilmington.The team will tee of with a shotgun start, beginning at 8:30 a.m. E.T.
