Box Score

MACON, Ga. – A bit different than how the Owls have be playing of late, the Kennesaw State baseball team dropped game three to Mercer in a pitchers duel, 2-1.

Each team would be held scoreless until the sixth inning when the Bears struck for two runs. Owls’ starter Kevin Kyle went 5.1 innings, allowing only one run on two hits while striking out three.

After hitting the Bears lead off batter Evan Boyd in the sixth inning, Kyle was pulled from the game. Boyd would then steal second and score on a Nick Backlund RBI single to score the games first run. Mercer would add one more in the inning when
Backlund touched home on a Derrick Workman RBI single.

KSU would give the Bears a scare in the ninth inning as Will Howard reached on an error and later scored on a Jacob Bruce fielder’s choice. With a runner on base, the Owls failed to get him in as a game ending strike out gave Mercer a 2-1 win.

The Black and Gold managed only six hits in the contest as it snaps the double-digit hit streak at seven games. Peyton Hart led the team with two hits and Bruce recorded the squads only RBI.

Kennesaw takes the series after two wins on Friday and Saturday as the Owls pitching staff shut down one of the nations top offensive teams to open Atlantic Sun conference play. The next conference series for KSU will be Mar. 23-25 as the team will take on Jacksonville.

The Owls will return to action on Wednesday, as the team will travel to Clinton, S.C., to face Presbyterian. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. E.T. KSU and the Blue Hose squared off last week in a 9-6 Presbyterian win.
