KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team (9-8) will open Atlantic Sun Conference play on Friday with a three game series against in-state rival Mercer at Claude Smith Field.

Mercer owns a 16-10 record over the Owls, including the last match-up between the two schools when they met in the A-Sun tournament last May. KSU fell, 6-4 to the Bears at Ken Dugan Field on the campus of Lipscomb, despite three hits and two RBI from Ronnie Freeman.

KSU’s last win on Mercer’s home field came last season as the Owls rallied from a 2-1, sixth-inning deficit to upend the Bears, 5-3, as Andy Chriscaden and Aaron Dobbs each had three hits a piece.

The team is coming of a tough loss on Wednesday, falling 9-6 to Presbyterian, losing the teams first in five games. Mercer (13-5) is currently tied with Stetson with a conference-high 13 wins.

The games are slated for Friday at 6:00 p.m., Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The game on Saturday has been rescheduled for 1:00 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict and Mercer hosting the second round of the CIT basketball tournament.

Josh Carr (3-1, 5.32 ERA) will be on the mound for Kennesaw on Friday night as the senior has won his last three Friday night outings. Carr has recorded 19 strikeouts in his last three appearances, with eight coming against Georgia State.

The offense for KSU has continued to find success as well as the team has 59 hits in five consecutive double-digit hit games. Along with their astounding hit total, the Owls have tallied 41 runs over the same tenure.
