KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team dropped their first in five games after falling three runs short to Presbyterian, 9-6 on Wednesday. The loss drops the Owls to 9-8 for the season with the Blue Hose moving up to 9-10 overall.
Presbyterian opened the game early in the first inning scoring the games first run, as KSU fell behind for the fourth consecutive game.
The Owls fought back to even the score 1-1 after
Ronnie Freeman drove in
Andy Almonte for his 15th RBI of the season. The defense for Kennesaw, led by pitcher
Nathan Harsh, held the Blue Hose to a scoreless second and third inning heading into the biggest inning for Kennesaw.
The Black and Gold gained momentum in the third after a stolen base by
Peyton Hart. Freeman tallied his second RBI of the game after a shot up the middle that scored Hart, and boosted KSU to a 2-1 advantage. Kennesaw continued to push in the third, capped off by
Chris McGowan’s third homerun of the season, a shot to left-center field that put the squad in front, 5-1.
The Blue Hose answered back, hitting two homeruns in the fourth making it a close 4-5 chase. Andrew Williams’s second homerun of the game in the top of the fifth inning gave Presbyterian the lead back as they jumped out 6-5.
The Owls would again bounce back to tie the game in their half of the fifth inning with a
Will Howard double that plated McGowan.
Presbyterian would add two more runs in the eighth inning and another in the ninth as Williams hit his third homer of the contest, en route to a 9-6 win.
Wednesday’s contest marks the first game of the season that the Owls have played an errorless game, and the fist time KSU has been out hit since the final game against Jacksonville State on March 4th.
The team will open Atlantic Sun Conference play this weekend when the squad travels to Macon, Ga., to compete against in-state rival Mercer. The games are slated for Friday at 6:00 p.m., Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The game on Saturday has been rescheduled for 1:00 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict and Mercer hosting the second round of CIT basketball tournament.
