TALAHASSEE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team moved into third place at the Seminole Intercollegiate after posting a second round of 286, +2. Senior Jeff Karlsson dropped to second place in the individual medalist race with a round of 70, -1 on Saturday.
The Owls (569, +1) surpassed conference rival Mercer to sit in third place behind No. 8 ranked Georgia Tech (552, -16) and No. 28 Florida State (557, -11). Mercer (570, +2) and Jacksonville (573, +5) sit just behind the Black and Gold to round out the top-five.
“We had a decent performance, but we know we are certainly capable of playing better,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “We did some things well, but we are making too many silly mistakes. Those mistakes make it very difficult to score well and get any momentum going. We are back of the leaders, but if we play to our talent level, we could and should post a really good number.”
Karlsson carded the team’s only sub-par round of 70, -1 on the Southwood Golf Course, but fell to second place behind the Seminoles Chase Seifert by one stroke. Seifert turned in back-to-back rounds of 67, -4 to take over first place.
Senior Matt Nagy and freshman Jimmy Beck remain tied with each other in 28th place, as both posted a 71, E, while junior Ben Greene and Kelby Burton are tied for 48th.
Sophomore Jonathan Klotz is tied for 12th as an individual competitor after posting a 36-hole total of 71-70=140, -1.
Kennesaw will tee off in round three on Sunday at 9:47 a.m. E.T., and will be paired with Mercer, Florida State and Georgia Tech. Live stats of the final round can be viewed on Golfstat.com. For updates throughout the round, follow the team on Twitter @KSUOwlsMensGolf.
