MARIETTA, Ga. - The College of Charleston (2-1) dominated the bottom of the lineup en route to a 6-1 triumph over the Kennesaw State Owls (1-2), spoiling their home opener at Fair Oaks Tennis Center today. The Cougars swept the doubles matches before rolling to straight set wins in five of the six singles matches.
The lone bright spot on the day for the Owls was freshman No. 3
Louis Theodor, who defeated Kyle Parker, an All-Conference player in the Southern Conference a year ago. The first set was all Parker, who handed Theodor a 6-2 setback in the opener. The second set remained on serve until 4-4, when Theodor finally broke Parker and followed the break up by serving out the set. Theodor then won a back and forth third set tiebreaker, 10-8, for his third straight win to open the season.
"Louis played an excellent second set and tiebreaker today," commented Owl Head Coach #T.J. Greggs#. "He continues to show his resolve. Even after a very difficult first set, he fought back and found a way to win once again. We had a few very good efforts today, but Charleston is an experienced and well-coached team. We knew this was going to be a tough one, but I was especially proud of our top three today, who really competed well with three very strong players."
The Owls will return to the road this weekend, when they face off with Alabama State and Alabama A&M on Saturday, February 11. The matches will take place on the campus of Alabama State University. First serve is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. CST.
