Final Scoring

St. Simons, Ga. – Senior golfer, Matt Nagy wrapped up the prestigious Jones Cup Invitational with a top-10 showing.  The Buena Vista native finished tied for ninth, posting a 54-hole score of 222, +6 at the Ocean Forest Golf Club.

Nagy entered the final round tied for ninth after posting the tournaments best round of 69, -3 on day two.  After closing out the final 11 holes with three birdies and an eagle, the senior put himself in contention for the closing round. Posting a concluding round of 74, +2, Nagy proved he could compete with the world’s best golfers.

“I really felt confident this week and confidence goes a long way when competing on a course that has the caliber of Ocean Forest,” Nagy said. “I managed my game well and only made a couple of mistakes. Unfortunately those mistakes kept me from winning the tournament, but I am excited where my game is at right now and look forward to the Gator Invitational later this week with the team.”

Justin Thomas, a freshman for Alabama University claimed the title after shooting three rounds of even golf.  His final round of 69-3, helped Thomas leap frog Manav Shah of San Diego State to claim the eighth ever Cup, to place his name along side PGA notables like D.J Trahan and Kyle Stanley.

The Kennesaw State golf team will begin their portion of the 2012 season on Feb. 11 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.  The Owls closed out their final two tournaments of the fall with titles and look to keep the momentum rolling against a formidable field.
