NEW ORLEANS, La. – Kennesaw State women’s golf moved into 12th place after round two of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at the English Turn Country Club, posting a 298, +10, as freshman Kaew Preamchuen led the team with a 70, - 2 to finish day two tied for 10th place.
"Today was a roller coaster of momentum changes," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We got off to a stellar start, but our finishing holes left us disappointed. The focus tomorrow is to continue to stick with the strategy we have used but focus on finishing strong."
Despite intemperate weather, round two began as the teams were forced to play in rain and windy conditions. Able to fight through the conditions, the Owls posted a front nine score of plus six, while counting three birdies. On the back nine, Kaew Preamchuen proved to be the recruit head coach Rhyll Brinsmead knew she could be. After beginning the back nine with birdies on three of the first four holes, Kaew helped the Black and Gold move up from 13th place as the squad sits just 10 strokes back of sixth place.
"Kaew's round today was amazing," Brinsmead said. "She had only 21 putts and her only bogey was on her 18th hole. If everyone can play like they are capable of, I am confident we can move into the top-10."
Ines Lescudier carded the teams next best round with a 72, E to finish tied for 23rd, while Ket Preamchuen sits tied for 43rd after turning in a 76, +4. Molly Winnett rounded out the scoring for the team as she finished with an 80, +8.
With the final round on Tuesday, the Owls will need to improve on their 36-hole score of 606, +30. Already leading two top-40 programs, KSU will need a solid final 18 for a chance to prove their worth. In between the Owls and sixth place No. 20 ranked Oregon Ducks are No. 11 Texas A&M (598, +22), No. 2 Alabama (599, +10), No. 3 Auburn (600, +24), No. 44 Tulane (601, +25) and No. 33 Florida State (602, +26).
