NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Kennesaw State women’s golf team sit in 13th place after round one of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate following a 308, +20 at the daunting English Turn Country Club.

“Our scores do not reflect the quality of golf this team played today,” head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. “English Turn is by far the most challenging layout we have faced this year. I am proud of the team for sticking with our game and making clutch putts when we needed them. We have room for improvement tomorrow and I am confident we can move up the leader board.”

All four of the Black and Gold scores that counted on day one were a 77, +5. Lea Charpier, Ines Lescudier, Ket Preamchuen and Kaew Preamchuen each posted a 77, +5 to all tie for 45th place. Both of the Preamchuen sisters recorded a birdie on the par-five sixth hole, but it would be the only two birdies that would factor into the scoring for the Owls.

Kennesaw is right in the thick of things as they sit just 10 shots out of fifth place. In a field that hosts a combined 11 national championships between the competing teams and also 12 schools within the Golfstat top-50 rankings, the Owls have 36-holes to prove they belong amongst the nations best.

Fourth-ranked USC is the clubhouse leader after posting a 293, +5. Pac-12 Conference rival Oregon, the nation’s 20th-ranked team, is just one stroke back in second place, while No. 13 Duke is third at 295, +7 and No. 17 Colorado and No. 19 Baylor are each tied for fourth place posting a 297, +9.

The Owls will tee of at 10:30 a.m. E.T. on Monday and will be paired with Ole Miss and East Carolina for round two. Live stats of the Intercollegiate can be viewed at Golfstat.com. For updates throughout the round, you can follow the Owls on Twitter @KSUOwlsWmnsGolf.
