CLINTON, S.C. - Kennesaw State's women's tennis team (5-2) rode the momentum of strong performances at the top of the lineup to victory
today, downing the Presbyterian Blue Hose (1-4) by a score of 5-2.
In the doubles, the No. 1 tandem of
Vera Shkundina and
Alexandra Apostu rolled to victory, 8-4. At No. 2, the Owl duo of
Jana Hueckinghaus and
Virginie Stein whitewashed their Presbyterian opponents, 8-0, to give the Owls the doubles point.
In the singles, the Owls ran through the top three matches to clinch the win, highlighted by a 6-0, 6-1 win by Owl sophomore
Alexandra Apostu over Greer Ransom of the home team. An additional highlight for the Owls was the play of junior
Kelsey Kennedy, who saw her first action of the spring, stepping in at the No. 6 spot due to regular No. 6
Tamara Plocher falling ill. Kennedy picked up the final point for the Owls, downing Lucia Leahy, 7-5, 6-1.
The Owls will return to the court next week when they travel to Chattanooga to take on the Mocs at 1:00 p.m. at the Champions Club Tennis Center.
