JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women’s basketball team looks to stay hot as it puts its four-game winning streak on the line on Saturday afternoon when it takes on North Florida at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday could also be a historic day for the Lady Owls if all goes to plan. First, a win over North Florida would mark the first time in the program’s history that KSU has defeated the Dolphins and the Ospreys in its River City trip since joining Division I in the 2005-06 season. Second, a victory would extend Kennesaw State’s win streak to five games which would be its longest winning streak since the 2001-02 season when it won eight straight.

Even with all of that at stake head coach Colby Tilley knows that his team has to stay focused and take it one game at a time starting with North Florida on Saturday.

“I think we are playing our best basketball of the season right now and this is the time to be doing it,” coach Tilley said. “The four-game winning streak is nice, but we aren’t concerned about that right now. We just need to keep playing solid basketball as North Florida will be a big game for us. We had trouble against their zone defense last time we played them so we will look to move the ball around a lot more and try to get things going in towards the basket.”

Scoring balance has been key during Kennesaw State’s (13-13, 8-7 A-Sun) impressive four-game run as three of those games featured at least four KSU players scoring in double-figures, including Thursday night’s win over Jacksonville.

Junior Lisa Capellan led four KSU players in double-figures with 13 points as the KSU extended its winning streak to four games with a 66-62 win over Jacksonville. KSU took its first lead of the game after a long three-pointer by redshirt-freshman Taylor Mills with 3:22 left. Kennesaw State further extended its lead after another Mills trey making the score 61-55. Three straight Lady Owl turnovers let the Dolphins get to within two in the final minute, but KSU got two clutch free throws from Mills to seal the win.

Thursday’s victory gave Kennesaw State a little breathing room in the conference standings. With only three A-Sun games remaining in its regular season schedule, KSU sits in fourth place still trailing Belmont by a game for third, while North Florida is right on the Lady Owls heels sitting a half game back in fifth.

North Florida (11-16, 8-8 A-Sun) is coming off a 66-49 win over Mercer on Thursday. The Ospreys return four starters from a team that went 13-17 last season, and are led by senior Brittany Kirkland who leads the team in scoring at 12.0 ppg and assists at 3.7 apg.
