SORRENTO, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women’s golf team concluded the UCF Challenge with a 10th place showing at the Red Tail Golf Club posting a 900, + 36 as junior Molly Winnett led the Owls.

In her first tournament of the 2011-12 season, Winnett was the Black and Gold’s top performer as she finished tied for 38th posting a 75-74-75=224, +8. Lea Charpier and Ines Lescudier each tied for 43rd as both freshmen tallied a 225, +9 over the course of the 54-hole tournament.

Junior Ket Preamchuen finished tied for 53rd carding a 227, +11, while Kaew Preamchuen ended her first ever collegiate tournament tied for 76th shooting a 233, +17.

“The team battled hard today in tough conditions,” head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. “This event gave a glimpse to what our players are capable of. I am very proud of Molly’s overall finish as she really stepped up as an upperclassman.”

The Owls 10th place finish out of 18 teams should help the No. 68 team in the country advance in the standings as they beat three higher ranked teams. Of the nine teams that finished higher than the Black and Gold, six were ranked in the top-50 of Golfstat, and three in the top-25. The squad was led by a different individual each day, which is a true testament to how deep this teams talent is.

Auburn University claimed the team title after posting an 863, +6 to beat Baylor by two strokes, as they were lead by the individual medalist winner Victoria Trapani, who carded a 213, -3 to best the field.

The Black and Gold will return to action on Feb. 26 when they travel to New Orleans, La., to compete in one of college golf’s best tournaments, the All State Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate. For updates on the intercollegiate, you can follow the team on Twitter @KSUOwlsWmnsGolf.
