GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Kennesaw State men’s golf team finished 36-holes of the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Saturday, and currently sit in 13th place with one round remaining on the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
The Owls ended round one in a tie for sixth after shooting an opening round of 290, +10. Led by the senior Matt Nagy, the Buena Vista native posted a 69, -1 to conclude the round tied for eighth. The second round of the Invite brought trouble for the Black and Gold as they posted the highest score of their 2011-12 campaign with a 311, +31.
“It was a tough day for us,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “We played well during the first round but didn’t finish well and then carried it over into a sluggish second round. We simply hit a lot of poor golf shots and you cannot get away with that on this course. I am proud of our effort and attitudes; we just have to get better.”
Freshman Jimmy Beck posted the second best finish for the Owls with a 74-75, +9 total. Freshman Austin Vick’s 72-80, +12 and Ben Greene’s 75-78, +13 rounded out the scoring for the squad.
A host of SEC schools sit atop the team leaderboard as Auburn (560, E) lead second place Florida (565, +5) and third place Arkansas (577, +17).
The team will tee off for the final round of action on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Owls will be paired with Atlantic Sun foe Jacksonville and a bevy of individuals. For updates throughout the round, you can follow the team on Twitter @KSUOwlsMensGolf.
