KENNESAW, Ga. – After adding some fresh talent to their squad, the Kennesaw State women’s golf team is set to show it off at the UCF Challenge on Feb. 12-14 at the Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.
The Challenge is characterized as one of the nations premier tournaments and will host another daunting field in 2012. The No.68 ranked Owls will be joined by No.3 Auburn, No.83 Augusta State No.22 Baylor, No.60 Coastal Carolina, No.56 Georgia State, No.106 Kansas, No. 37 Kentucky, No.97 Memphis, No.73 Miami, No.93 Mississippi State, No.27 South Carolina, No.15 Texas, No. 55 Texas-San Antonio, No. 53 Tulane, No.47 UCF and No.71 USF.
"The qualifying for this event was intense and I am so proud of the entire team's effort in practice early this spring season,” head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. “I feel very confident in the five players we are taking. It is a new dynamic and I know we have the
depth from one to five to be very competitive. This event will be a real gauge of the direction of the program and we are excited to see where we stack up against the best in the country.”
The Owls are familiar with the Red Tail Golf Course as this will be the second consecutive year the team has partaken in the Challenge. Last year, junior Ket Preamchuen recorded a fifth place finish by posting a 68-72-75=215, -1 as the team finished 13th.
This years lineup will be much different for Brinsmead as Lea Charpier will play number one followed by the Preamchuen sisters as Ket will be number two and youger sister Kaew will play three. Newcomer and Tulane transfer Ines Lescudier will occupy the fourth spot while Molly Winnett will round out the participating five.
