KENNESAW, Ga. – First year Kennesaw State women’s basketball head coach Nitra Perry takes her crew on the road for the 2012-13 season opener at Middle Tennessee State this Friday as the Owls partake in the Preseason WNIT first round game.

The Owls will look to better their 14-17 record from a year ago, starting off with the Blue Raiders, who take to the court ranked No. 8 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll and are also receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today Coaches’ Polls.

KSU had an impressive showing during their lone exhibition game last Friday, defeating Southern Polytechnic in overtime, 79-75. Sophomore Bria Young (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill HS) led the Owls with 17 points, 13 of which came in the first half on three three-pointers.

Preseason All-Atlantic Sun selection Kristina Wells (Douglasville, Ga./Douglas County HS) compiled an impressive stat line of her own during the win, bringing in 16 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Middle Tennessee State, an NCAA Tournament team in 2011-12, brings in an abundance of veteran leadership to the court with a total of nine upperclassmen on the roster. Junior guard Laken Leonard leads the Blue Raider offense after scoring 27 points during MTSU’s two exhibition wins over Alabama-Huntsville and Lincoln Memorial.

Friday’s meeting will be the first ever between the two schools with the WNIT bracket slating the Owls against either Memphis or Grambling in the second round with the day and time being announced Saturday morning.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Charles M. Murphy Athletic Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
