KENNESAW, Ga. –
Kennesaw State defended their home turf on day one of the Pinetree Intercollegiate as the team, led by Jimmy Beck’s course record of 65, -7 sit atop the leaderboard after posting a five-under-par, 289-282=571 total at the par 72, 7108 yard Pinetree Country Club.

Beck entered round two of the Intercollegiate tied for fifth, but after a blistering final 11 holes that included seven birdies, Beck propelled himself into first place, breaking the course record the was previously set by current University of Georgia player, Sam Straka (66, -6). His 65, -7 is second best in Kennesaw State history, behind only Matt Nagy’s 63, -8 set in 2012 at the Seminole Intercollegiate.

“I finally made a birdie on the eighth hole and from there the putter got hot and I started rolling them in,” Beck said. “This is a tough course and we were able to take advantage of it today. We are going to go after it right off the bat tomorrow and hopefully there will be no slowing down.”

While Beck led the Owls on Monday, senior Ben Greene recorded a one-under-par, 143 to sit just behind Beck in second place. Greene trails the sophomore by six-strokes, and leads third place by two.  Sophomore Austin Vick moved into a tie for 11th place after shooting a two-under-par, 70 on the second round, marking his top round as a collegiate athlete.

In addition, senior Sam Curtis followed his opening round of one-under-par, 71 with a second round of 78 to sit tied for 14th, while senior Peder Lunde Hermansson rounded out the scoring for the Black and Gold with back-to-back 75’s to remain tied for 18th.

“We got off to a great start and were able to take advantage of playing at our home course,” Head Coach Jay Moseley said. “We got to go out and execute our game plan tomorrow. If we do that, we are going to be tough to beat.”

Competing as individuals, junior Jonathan Klotz finished tied for 18th after carding a six-over-par, 151, while freshman Carlos Segura Oliva shot a 12-over-par, 156 to tie for 51st.
