DULUTH, Ga. –
Peder Lunde Hermansson posted his career best finish of sixth place on Tuesday afternoon to lead the men’s golf team to a tie for seventh place at the Autotrader.com Collegiate Classic, hosted at the par-71, 6679 yards Berkeley Hills Country Club.

The team finished tied for seventh in the 16-team field, posting a season low score of 37-over-par, 889 to tie with South Carolina. Hermansson, the Owls top performer finished the 54-holes, two-day event with a two-over-par, 215 total to post a career best finish.  His previous best was a tie for 31st, set earlier this season at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Championship. Hermansson bested seven players ranked in the top-100 of the Golfstat Cup, including two ranked inside the top-20.

Currently ranked No. 45 in the Golfstat Cup, Jimmy Beck turned in an eight-over-par, 221 to tie for 19th. Beck was followed by senior Ben Greene who placed tied for 35th at 13-over-par, 226, while Austin Vick rounded out the four-person scoring in a tie for 40th, shooting a 14-over-par, 227.

“We had a disappointing finish as we didn’t play to our capability this week,” Head Coach Jay Moseley stated. “We got beat by teams we know we are capable of beating. We have to get better and that’s the bottom line. We are going to work harder to improve and that will be our mindset going forward.”

Georgia Southern won the team title with a seven-over par score of 859 to beat out host school Georgia State (866, +14), while Mercer finished third at 874, +22. Chattanooga finished fourth at 881, +29 and Winthrop rounded out the top five after carding an 885, +33.

Dykes Harbin of South Carolina held on to his day one lead to win the individual medalist honors with a three-under-par, 210. Followed by a trio of runner-up finishers, U.S. Amateur Champion Steven Fox of Chattanooga, Kamito Hirai of Winthrop and Scott Wolfes of Georgia Southern all posted a one-under-par, 212 to place second.

The men will return to action on Monday, Oct. 22-23 as they defend their home turf of Pinetree Country Club. The team will host a 12-team field at the Inaugural Pinetree Intercollegiate.

“We are excited to defend our home course,” Moseley said. “This will be a short turn around for us, but it is a nice homecoming competing close to home. The guys are excited to play close to campus, and we hope that we can get a lot or support to turnout.”
