Men's Golf Finish Sixth After 36 Holes at Rees Jones Intercollegiate

The Kennesaw State men’s golf team endured tough opening rounds on Monday at the fifth annual Rees Jones Intercollegiate, as the team posted a 33-over-par, 306-303=609 at the par-72, 7,380 yard Haig Point Golf Club. The team is currently in sixth place with the final round of play set for Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

Ian McConnell of Liberty University shot a two-under-par, 142 for 36 holes on Monday to help Liberty University to a 17-stroke lead over host South Carolina after the first day of play. The Flames combined to post a 574 while South Carolina shot a 591, and Winthrop posted a 594 to remain third.

McConnell shot scores of 68-74 for his total, which was one of only two individual 36-hole totals under par on the day. Liberty also had the next two best scores, as Niklas Lindstrom, and Max McKay helped the Flames’ effort with totals of 143 (-1) and 144 (E) respectively.

Two-time defending champion Kennesaw State sits in sixth place among the 12 teams, but remains 35 shots behind the leader Liberty. Led by Jimmy Beck and Ben Greene, the two are tied for ninth place heading in to Tuesday’s final round. Each golfer amassed a two round score of 149 (+5) as they both carded a 75-74.

Jonathan Klotz is tied for 23rd with a 152 (+8) total, while Carlos Segura Oliva finished at 161 (+17) and Peder Lunde Hermansson concluded at 162 (+18).
