KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will work to get back to its winning ways this Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. when it takes on USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. The important Atlantic Sun Conference game will air on both
ASun.TV and
KSU All-Access.
The Lady Owls (6-9, 1-3) are coming off a tough, 87-50, loss to Florida Gulf Coast last Wednesday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center. Taylor Mills scored 12 points to lead the Lady Owls, while Lisa Capellan added 10 points and five offensive rebounds. KSU had more points in the paint and more second-chance points than FGCU, but the Lady Owls were unable to slow down the Eagles from the field, as the visitors shot 27-of-49 in the contest.
KSU has had success on the road this season, as four of its wins have come away from the KSU Convocation Center. The Lady Owls are riding a two-game winning streak in road games, dating back to a, 61-51, win over Alabama State Dec. 29.
USC Upstate (1-13, 0-3) fell last Wednesday, 67-64, at East Tennessee State. Tee'Ara Copney had a team-best 20 points, while Paulina Zaveckaite added 17 rebounds for the Spartans. Copney also added a season-high seven assists and five rebounds. For Zaveckaite, the game marked the third-straight in which she recorded a double-double.
Upstate's only win on the season came against one of the common opponents between KSU and the Spartans this season. Upstate defeated UNC Asheville, 73-66, on Nov. 30 behind Copney's 34 points. The Spartans have struggled at times offensively this season, scoring 35 points or fewer on three occasions. The Spartans have been outscored by 22.8 points this season, the highest difference in the A-Sun.
The two programs have a lengthy and storied history. KSU leads the series 17-7, as the Lady Owls won 14 consecutive meetings with the Spartans from the 1995-96 season through the first meeting of the 2008-09 campaign. Upstate has won four of the last five meetings, including a 69-64 win Jan. 31, 2011, in Spartanburg.
Following Saturday's contest, the Lady Owls will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to face ETSU. Tipoff in Monday afternoon's contest is slated for 3:30 p.m.
