KENNESAW, Ga. – With the month of February fast approaching the time to make a tournament push is now, and the Kennesaw State women’s basketball team will begin that push on Thursday night as it will take on Stetson at 7 p.m.

With nine Atlantic Sun Conference games remaining on their schedule the Lady Owls currently sit in a tie for sixth place in the standings.

Kennesaw State (9-11, 4-5 A-Sun) took a big step forward last time out as they overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Jacksonville, 78-64, on Jan. 21. The win marked only the second time this season that KSU trailed at halftime, but was able to fight back and win the game. The other instance came on Dec. 17 against UNC Asheville.

Trailing the Dolphins 38-30 with 16:50 left in the game KSU responded going on an 18-2 run over the next five minutes giving it a 48-40 lead with just under 12 minutes left to go in the game. From this point freshman center Carmen Lockhart took over recording a career-high 16 points in 17 minutes of action to help the Lady Owls pull away for the win.

Looking ahead to this weekend, KSU will be embarking on its toughest road trip of the season as it will pay a visit to the conference’s top two teams beginning with Stetson on Thursday.

Head Coach Colby Tilley knows the challenge that his team faces on this trip, but he is looking forward to seeing how his team responds as he feels that they had a good week of practice to prepare.

“This is probably the toughest road trip we will have all year simply because we are playing the two top teams in the conference," coach Tilley said. "It is a big weekend for us, but our players have progressed and gotten better every week. This is going to be a good test to see how much further we have to go to be competitive at the top. I feel good about our players, and they are excited for this trip so I am definitely looking forward to it."

Junior guard Chelcey Farrar will be a key X-factor in helping the Lady Owls come out of DeLand with a win as she has averaged 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in her last two games against Stetson.

The Hatters (16-5, 7-2 A-Sun) are coming off a tough loss to first place Florida Gulf Coast, 59-55, on Saturday. Stetson returns three starters from a team that won the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament last season. Stetson is also currently ranked 23rd in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll, and are led by Conference Preseason Player of the Year Victoria McGowan who leads the A-Sun in scoring at 16.7 ppg.
