KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State track and field team will compete at the Birmingham Invitational Jan. 25-26 at the Birmingham CrossPlex for their third meet of the indoor season.
The Owls return to the CrossPlex for the second consecutive meet at the new state-of-the-art indoor track stadium which features seating for 4,000 fans, a 200-meter hydraulically banked Mondo Super X track, eight-lane sprint track and double runways and rings for all field events.
“This meet is a little unusual for us as we will be competing for the first time on a Thursday instead of Saturday,” head coach Andy Eggerth said. “We expect to see exceptional performances and will use this meet to gage where we’re at for conference which is four weeks from now.”
The Owls will be joined by 20 teams from the Southeast region with the likes of Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Belmont, Chattahoochee Tech, Emory, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State, Lamar, Loyola-New Orleans, Miami, Mississippi State, Mississippi Valley State, Nicholls State, Oglethorpe, Sewanee, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Stillman, and Shorter.
The throwers for both the men's and women's team as well as sprinter Victoria Jackson will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to compete in the Niswonger Collegiate Invitational. The invitational will be hosted on Jan. 27-28 by ETSU at the MSHA Athletics Center, the venue for the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championship.
The men are looking to build off their success from their last appearance at the CrossPlex where freshman phenom Reggie Lewis set a school record and collected a couple of top-10 finishes along with an 11th place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.92.
On the women’s side, freshmen Alicia Whittle and Kentrell White both had record-breaking performances to add to the Owls success at the facility. Whittle bolstered the 60-meter dash record with a time of 7.60 and a fourth place finish. White followed with a record time of 24.81 in the 200-meter dash to set a new record while running to a seventh place finish.
