KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s basketball team returns home to host a pair of crucial Atlantic Sun Conference games starting on Thursday night as the Lady Owls will take on North Florida at 7 p.m.

Kennesaw State (8-10, 3-4 A-Sun) is playing at the KSU Convocation Center for the first time in 15 days as the Lady Owls went 2-1 on its recent three-game road trip. KSU concluded that trip on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 75-51 win over in-state rival Mercer.

Redshirt-freshman guard Taylor Mills led the way as she scored a game-high 17 points, to go along with a career-high seven assists in the win. For her performance she was named the A-Sun Newcomer of the Week for the third time this season on Tuesday morning. The Knoxville, Tenn. native is now in the top-six of the A-Sun in multiple categories including being ranked sixth in points per game at 13.4, second in assists per game at 4.2, second in steals per game at 2.9 and she leads the conference in minutes played averaging 38.2 per game.

The Lady Owls will now focus its attention on North Florida (6-12, 3-4 A-Sun) as they try to match their best eight-game start to conference play since the 2008-09 season when they also went 4-4.

Head Coach Colby Tilley knows the importance of this game as his team is almost at the halfway point of league play.

“This is a very pivotal game for us as all of our games from here on out will be crucial as we countdown towards the conference tournament,” coach Tilley said. “North Florida is always a very tough opponent for us because they are very deliberate in what they do and they slow things down. We always like to get out and run so it is definitely going to be a contrast in styles. If we can hold our turnovers down and control the board I think we will have a great chance at coming out with a win.”

When the Lady Owls do get out and run it has been a great recipe for success this season as they are 7-1 when they score 65 or more points in a game.

The Ospreys are coming off a 58-57 loss at USC Upstate on Jan. 14. UNF returns four starters from a team that went 13-17 last season. North Florida was picked to finish fifth in the A-Sun Preseason Poll, and it is led by senior guard Brittany Kirkland who leads the team in scoring at 12.2 ppg.
