KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s tennis team is set to compete in its second event of its 2011-12 season as it travels to Chattanooga, Tenn. to compete in the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic, held at the Champions Club Tennis Center.
The Black and Gold are coming off a productive trip up to the Northeast where they played in the University of Buffalo Invitational against Buffalo, Saint Bonaventure and Niagara.
KSU took home a total of four titles in the tournament. Junior
Gianni Kubin led the Owls as he won the E Draw Singles title going 2-1 on the weekend. Freshman Alexander Pena went 6-0 in his first-ever collegiate tournament as he took home the F Draw Singles title and he also partnered up with sophomore
Ryan Spencer to win the C Draw Doubles title.
Kennesaw State played in the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic last season as well with its best result coming from the team of
Tyler Mills and Elliot Kahler winning the Flight 3 Doubles consolation draw.
"The Steve Baras Memorial Tournament is one of my personal favorites of the fall season,” head coach #T.J. Greggs# said. “The tournament has obviously gained in prestige through the years, as several new programs will be there this year, and the level of play should be very high. It will be a good test for our team, and a chance for us to see some of our Atlantic Sun competition (Stetson, Belmont, ETSU). I am looking forward to seeing our doubles teams raise their level from last week, now that they have had a chance to play together. We hope to bring home some titles and compete at a high level."
Play will start on Friday, Sept. 30 at 9 a.m.
