BURLINGTON, Iowa - The Kennesaw State men’s golf team finished 11th at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, posting a 293-302-299, +30 on the par-72, 7,010 yard Spirit Hollow Golf Course.

After 54-holes in chilly and windy conditions against the nation’s premier teams, the Owls struggled to convert opportunities totaling only one individual sub-par round out of 15.

"Overall this week I was pleased with our effort and attitudes; however, we struggled with our execution of golf shots," head coach Jay Moseley said. "It was disappointing to play the way we did because we know we are capable of much more. We know we have work to do to get better. Everyone plays poorly at some point during the season so hopefully we can get this out of our system early. This event should be a good experience for us to learn from our mistakes and motivate us to improve."

Senior Matt Nagy finished as the low individual for the Black and Gold shooting a 68-75-75=218, +2 to tie for 13th. Nagy produced 13 birdies and saved 29 par opportunities to finish just outside a star-studded top-10.

Senior Jeff Karlsson advanced just one position from round two finishing tied for 22nd, totaling a 74-74-73=221, +5. Karlsson continued to perfect his long game as he birdied seven of his 12 chances at par-fives.

Freshman Jimmy Beck and junior Sam Curtis each tied for 56th. In his first collegiate action, Beck posted a 76-77-77=230, +14, while Curtis finished with an 80-76-74=230, +14.

Sophomore Jonathan Klotz rounded out the scoring for the Owls shooting a 75-81-77=233, +17 to place tied for 63rd.

The SEC claimed bragging rights at the Conference Challenge as Arkansas (859, -5) won the team title after overtaking two-day leader Chattanooga (866, +2) on the final day.

The Mocs’ Stephan Jaeger claimed the individual medalist after leading all three rounds. The senior turned in a 67-69-73=209, -7 to finish one-stroke ahead of Arkansas’ Josh Eure, (210, -6).

The Owls will return to action next Monday, as they will compete in the Rees Jones Intercollegiate in Daufuskie Island, S.C.
