BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team finished round one of the Golfweek Conference Challenge tied for seventh with Southeastern Louisiana after posting a 293, +5 at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course.

Senior Matt Nagy is just one stroke behind the leader, shooting a 68, -4 to sit in a four-way tie for second.  After two bogeys in his opening eight-holes, Nagy recorded six birdies to close out the first round of play.

“Matt got off to a slow start but he got into a groove on his last 10-holes,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “His strong finish helped us make up some much needed ground that we needed to be able to compete with best teams in the country.”

Senior Jeff Karlsson is tied for 36th posting a 74, +2, while sophomore teammate Jonathan Klotz is tied for 46th shooting a 75, +3.

“As a team we had a good round today, but we certainly were not as sharp as we could have been,” Moseley said. “The guys struggled with a couple different things so we just need to refocus and be more comfortable on the course tomorrow. We know that if we play our best we can get back into contention.”
