WOLCOTT, Colo. - The Kennesaw State women’s golf team concluded round one of play at the Golf Week Conference Challenge tied for tentth after posting an 18-hole score of 304, +16.
The Fazio Course at the Red Sky Golf Club proved to be a difficult venue as the par-72, 6,236-yard course yielded all above par scores for the top-18 teams from each NCAA conference.
“Today’s conditions were very difficult, the greens were rolling fast, but the team persevered and I am proud of the way they finished,” head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. “We have put ourselves in a good position for round two and will look to close the gap on the top teams tomorrow.”
Junior Ket Preamchuen turned in the low round for the Black and Gold as she posted a 72, +2 in the opening round.
In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Léa Charpier shot a 75, +3 after finishing the front nine sub-par. Sophomore Lindsay Adams turned in a 77, +5 while freshman Minami Levonowich rounded out the scoring for the Owls after shooting a 78, +6.
UC Davis holds the early lead after posting a 294, +6 with Oregon and Coastal Carolina tied for second after each turned in a 297, +9.
The individual leaders are Ole Miss’ Natalie Gleadall, Coastal Carolina’s Kaitlin Higginbotham and Pepperdine’s Grace Na as all three competitors posted a 69, -3.
