KENNESAW, Ga. - Former Kennesaw State infielder Tyler Stubblefield was promoted to the San Diego Padres Triple-A affiliate Tucson over the weekend, marking the fifth former KSU player to earn a minor league promotion this summer.

On Saturday, Stubblefield received the news of his promotion and took an early morning flight from Peoria to join the Tucson squad in Fort Wayne as the Padres were in the midst of a four-game series at Parkview Field, the home of the Fort Wayne Tincaps.

Stubblefield made his Triple-A debut with a start at third base against the Las Vegas 51s on Saturday and was in the starting lineup again on Sunday when Tucson Padres manager Terry Kennedy started Stubblefield at third base in the series finale.

The Woodstock, Ga. native played for the Eugene Emeralds in the Short Season Class A Northwest League last year where he hit .251 in 58 games. He began this season with the Class A Fort Wayne TinCaps in the Midwest League where he played 24 games before his call up.

The multi-faceted Stubblefield has made a name for himself in the Padres organization as one of the most versatile players in their system. This season, he has made starts at all four infield positions, designated hitter, left field and also threw two-thirds of inning for the Tincaps.

Stubblefield, who was selected in the 22nd round of the 2010 draft by the Padres, was also drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 33rd round of the 2009 draft, but chose to return to Kennesaw State for his senior season.
