KENNESAW, Ga. - NCAA Division I PING All-Region honorees have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and two Kennesaw State University men's golfs have been selected. Juniors Jeff Karlsson and Matt Nagy received All-Region honors to add to their all-Atlantic Sun accolades.
Karlsson was honored for the first time in his career after posting eight top-10 finishes including three individual medalists this season. His three victories included wins at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate where he shot a season low round of 66, Seminole Intercollegiate and the A-Sun Championship where the native of Sweden fired a three-day total of six-under-par, 207 and was named to the A-Sun All-Tournament Team.
His decorated 2010-11 campaign included a stroke average of 70.33 which is the second lowest amongst all DI athletes and the highest winning percentage at 94 percent, (721-45-16). He finished the season ranked 8th in the Golfstat Cup and 27th in the Golfweek/Sargin rankings. Karlsson was a two-time A-Sun Golfer of the Week award winner and has also been selected to represent Team Europe for the Palmer Cup June 9th at the Stanwhich Club in Greenwich, CT.
Nagy’s season featured five top-five finishes including wins at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate and at the Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate. He finished second at the A-Sun Championship shooting three-under-par, 210 and was named to the A-Sun All-Tournament Team.
Nagy finished 34th in the Golfstat Cup and is ranked 82nd in the Golfweek/Sargin rankings. He was also a multiple A-Sun Golfer of the Week award winner, garnering the honor twice this spring. His stroke average for the season was a 71.00 with his lowest round of 67 coming at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate.
The two athletes lead the Owls to their first postseason appearance with a fourth place showing at the NCAA Regionals in Ocala, Fla., and a berth into the NCAA National Golf Championship where the team finished 26th.
