STILLWATER, Okla. – The season has come to a close for the Kennesaw State men’s golf team after posting a third round 314, +26 at the NCAA National Golf Championship held at the Karsten Creek Golf Club. The Owls posted a 54-hole score of 295-312-314=921, +57 to finish in 26th place.
“Obviously this was not the result we came here looking for, but with the 30 best teams in the country in a National Championship and the course we were on you have to have your best stuff,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “Over 54-holes on a golf course this difficult your weaknesses are revealed in great magnitude and it ultimately caught up to us.”
The Owls got out of the gates Thursday morning with a strong start on the opening back nine. After 10 holes the Black and Gold were just one-over-par before the proverbial wheels fell off.
“I was pleased with the start we got off to, but we couldn’t finish it off,” Moseley said.
Junior Jeff Karlsson posted the teams best finish as the Ping All-Region Honoree finished tied for 21st carding a 72-73-75=220, +4. Junior Matt Nagy, also a Ping All-Region Honoree finished tied for 66th posting a 73-80-73=226, +10.
Freshman Jonathan Klotz shot a 75-78-83=236, +20 to finish tied for 121st while senior Chad Wilson posted a 75-82-83=240, +24 to place tied for 132nd.
“Chad has stepped up and served in such a quality leadership position for this team,” Moseley said. “He has been a superb ambassador for this golf program and for Kennesaw State and we will sorely miss his contributions next year. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors and he knows he will always be a
part of the Kennesaw family.”
Sophomore Ben Greene rounded out the scoring for the Owls finishing tied for 151st carding an 84-81-84=249, +33.
“I am very proud of what this team has accomplished all year long as we improved throughout the year and I look forward to an even better season in 2011-12.”
The team put together the best season in the history of the KSU golf program winning five titles and collecting five individual medalist honors. The squad collected five Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Week Awards and had Karlsson and Nagy named A-Sun First Team Honorees.
