OCALA, Fla. – Ben Greene fired a 5-under-par 67 Thursday to finish the opening round of the Southeastern NCAA Regional tied for second.  His performance has the Owls tied for eighth with reigning National Champions Augusta State and Southeastern Louisiana with two rounds remaining.

The Black and Gold turned in a two-over-par, 290 at the Golden Ocala Golf and Equestrian Club.  Host school Florida posted the lowest round of the afternoon shooting a 282, -6, to lead SEC rival Arkansas by one stroke and Baylor and North Carolina State by two strokes.

Junior Jeff Karlsson and freshman Jonathan Klotz each posted a 73, +1. Junior Matt Nagy tallied a 77, +5 while senior Chad Wilson finished with an 81, +9 at the 6,994 yard, par-72 replica course.

“It was a decent day, but not what we anticipated,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “We didn’t execute the way we intended but we are still in a good position to make a run at the top five. “

The sophomore from Duluth – Greene, posted his best round in college competition.  Tallying four birdies and an eagle on the replica Augusta National Par-5 thirteen hole, Greene is positioned behind only Jack Dukeminier of Oregon, (66, -6).

“These next two days will be big and we will have to play our best,” Moseley said. “If we sharpen up and play how we are capable of tomorrow, we will be in good shape heading into Saturday.”

The Owls tee off on Friday at 8 a.m. (ET) and will again be paired with Notre Dame and Baylor. Live stats can be viewed at Golfstat.com. For complete coverage of the second and final round of the NCAA Regional and all KSU men’s golf news, visit www.ksuowls.com.
