KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Play was suspended late into the second round Saturday at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate. After a second rain delay, officials called the round leaving the Owls tied for fifth.
The Black and Gold teed off at 8:30 Saturday morning at the Club at Irish Creek finishing the first round carding a 291, +7 to close in fifth. Junior Matt Nagy supplied the low round for the Owls, posting a 67, -4, to secure the individual lead.
Proceeding play after an hour rain delay, the second round was halted leaving the team with a couple of holes to finish on Sunday before the final round begins.
No. 28 Wake Forest is currently 12-under par to lead the field while ACC rival Duke is 8-under in second place. The Demon Deacons have three individuals in the top-10 as Evan Beck is the current leader with teammates Lee Bedford in third and Kris Keiser in sixth. Louisville is third, followed by Middle Tennessee State in fourth and the Owls and Coastal Carolina tied for fifth.
“It was a roller coaster day for us out there,” head coach Jay Moseley. “We were very inconsistent on both the greens and on the tee box. We will have to correct those issues for tomorrow and play better golf to get back in the hunt.”
Juniors Nagy and Jeff Karlsson are each tied for 10th, while senior Chad Wilson and Ben Greene are tied for 50th. Freshman Jonathan Klotz was the final team contributor finishing tied for 61st.
As an individual competitor, Peder Lunde Hermansson is tied for 33rd as the sophomore sits 4-over.
The Black and Gold will continue play on round two Sunday at 10 a.m. (ET) with the final round to follow. Live stats of the Intercollegiate can be seen at
