KENNESAW, Ga. – For almost every collegiate sport the end of the regular season usually produces high amounts of drama, and for the Kennesaw State men’s tennis team the scenario it faces against Mercer on Saturday could not be a better example of that.
The Owls are faced with a simple, yet exciting, scenario for its final match of the season. If they defeat Mercer on Saturday they will qualify for their first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference Championship berth, but if they fall to the Bears they will fall just short of making the tournament.
If the Black and Gold want to have a taste of the postseason for the first time in program history they will have to accomplish another first to get there. Kennesaw State has never beaten Mercer as it is 0-2 all-time against the Bears.
Head Coach #T.J, Greggs# knows the pressure that his team is under, and he looks forward to seeing how his team will respond.
“We win and we're in. We lose and we're out. The same is true for Mercer. I think this is truly a tossup this weekend,” Greggs said. “However, I know our team is extremely hungry for a spot in the playoffs this year, and I expect us to buckle down and play some inspired tennis this weekend. Mercer is a good team, and we’re a good team. The conference is deeper than it has ever been this season, and we plan on being in DeLand next weekend to give it a go at the conference championship. We just need to get the job done on Saturday."
The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
