ATHENS, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team ran into trouble on the second day of the Liz Murphey Invitational at the University of Georgia Course. The Owls combined to shoot a team score of (313, +25) to finish tied for sevententh with Kent State.
After finishing the opening round of the Invitational tied for eighth, the Black and Gold struggled in round two. Freshman Hayley Clinning was once again the low contributor for the team, shooting a (79, +7) for the afternoon.
Sophomore Ket Preamchuen carded an (80, +8), while freshman Lindsay Adams turned in an (83, +11). Senior Abby Fitzgerald and sophomore Molly Winnett each posted an (87, +15).
"We struggled today in some tough conditions," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "The format of the tournament worked to our disadvantage today, where as yesterday it helped us. We will regroup and come out ready to play tomorrow."
The format for the event requires all five players of each team play their rounds together rather than divided up into groups. Instead of calculating each team’s score by adding up the four best rounds, the four lowest scores from each hole will are included in the team total.
The Owls will have to put together a stellar round on Sunday for the finals to catch the leaders. Alabama surpassed first-round leader Purdue to take the second-day lead with a tournament total of one-over (577, +1) good enough to control a four-stroke lead on the Boilermakers.
Purdue's Numa Gulyanamitta is the tournament's lone golfer at even par, as she is one stroke ahead of Marta Silva Samora (145, +1) of Georgia and Emily Tubert (145, +1) of Arkansas.
