ATLANTA- The Kennesaw State Owls wrap up their non-conference mid-week play on Wednesday afternoon with a trip to Panthersville to take on the Georgia State Panthers. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
The Owls (21-19, 8-9 Away) split a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon against UAB at Bailey Park. While they were shutout, 2-0, in the first game, they broke out late in the second game, using three-run innings in the fifth and sixth frames to pull away from the Blazers, 6-0. Amanda Henderson and Abbey Meixel combined for a, five-hit, shutout.
In Georgia State (24-16, 10-6 Home), the Owls find a team that is in the midst of an eight-game winning streak and has won 11 of their last 12 to move into a tie for first at the top of the Colonial Athletic Association. They most recently swept Drexel on the road, capped off by a 13-1 rout on Sunday. They have a five-game winning streak on their home field, having not dropped one there since Mar. 1.
For the Black and Gold, the Owls will be hoping to see the continued offensive prowess of Cross and sophomore Sharon Swanson. After Tuesday’s play, the two sit in a three-way tie atop the A-Sun home run list with 11 apiece. Swanson also leads the league in RBI all by herself, with 41.
The Panthers took both games of the Mar. 18 doubleheader at Bailey Park, 1-0 and 3-1, the last time the two teams met. Amanda Henderson allowed just one hit to the Panthers in the tough-luck loss in the first game, while the Black and Gold stranded runners in scoring on two different occasions in the closing game.
Overall, the Owls hold a 13-8 advantage over the Panthers in the all-time series, and are 8-3 all-time when playing them away from home.
