KENNESAW Ga. – After two long days and 54-holes of play at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate, the Owls place fifth while junior Jeff Karlsson finishes second amid all individuals.
The Black and Gold posted a 291-285-290/866, +14 at the Club at Irish Creek in what was their final tune up before the Atlantic Sun Championship.
“We had a very average overall tournament,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “Hopefully this will be a wake up call. We know what we need to work on to prepare for conference next week.”
After finishing round one four over par and in tenth place, Karlsson played 36-holes of bogey free golf tallying one eagle and six birdies to collect a second place finish. Karlsson’s 209, -4 tied with Duke’s Yarolslav Merkulov (209, -4) finishing three strokes behind the individual medalist Lee Bedford of Wake Forest (206, -7) The Sweden native’s second round score of 66 was the low round for the tournament.
Junior Matt Nagy finished tied for 12th carding a 214, +1 after concluding round one as the individual leader. Nagy recorded a team high nine birdies over the course of two days play.
Sophomore Ben Greene shoot a 222, +9 to finish tied for 36th while senior Chad Wilson posted a 225, +12 to finish tied for 52nd.
Freshman Jonathan Klotz wrapped up the scoring for the Owls carding a 231, +18 to finish tied for 68th.
As an individual competitor, Peder Lunde Hermansson place tied for 46th shooting a 224, +11.
No. 17 Duke claimed the team title shooting a 844, -8, to beat ACC foe No. 28 Wake Forest by seven stokes. (851, -1) Louisvile finished third (856, +4) and Middle Tennessee State finished fourth (266, +13).
The Owls return to the links Apr. 18-20 for the Men’s Atlantic Sun Championship. For the second consecutive year the venue will be the Chateau Elan Golf Course in Braselton, Ga.
