MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team won their fourth title of the season as the Owls bested 11-teams posting a 284-281-280/845, -19 en-route to capturing the Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate title. Junior Matt Nagy helped the Black and Gold double up as his 67-68-68/203, -13 was good enough to capture the individual title.
“I am extremely proud of the guys and the way they came in with a plan to win and executed,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “We executed our game plan and as a result posted the lowest score of any team in two of the three days. “
Nagy finished under par each of the three rounds at the Surf Golf and Beach Club of North Myrtle Beach to lead the Owls. Sophomore Jeff Karlsson, in his first action of the spring finished T-3rd, carding a 72-71-66/209, -7.
“It was great to have Matt and Jeff to play the way they did,” Moseley said. “Their play really helped us push through.”
“It was great to get our second win in as many tries,” Nagy said. “I am happy with my performance. The team is really playing well and to have Swede [Karlsson, a native of Sweden] back is nice.”
Sophomore Ben Greene posted a 73-70-73/216, finshing T-13th, E, freshman Jonathan Klotz recorded a 72-72-73/217, +1, placing 15th and senior Chad Wilson finished with an 81-74-74/229, +13 finishing T-37th. Peder Lunde Hermansson posted a 74-73-76/223, +7 and finished 34th as an individual competitor.
The Owls will forgo coming home and head straight to their next tournament in Tallahassee, Fla. The Black and Gold will compete in the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State, Mar. 11-13.
