KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s tennis team lost the second match of its Atlantic Sun Conference home stand against USC Upstate, 4-1, at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center.
The win improves the Spartans to 9-11 (5-2 A-Sun) on the season, while the loss drops the Owls to 9-10 (3-5 A-Sun) for the year.
"We gave ourselves an opportunity to win today by playing some amazing doubles at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots,” head coach #T.J. Greggs# said. “Michael and Ryan played an excellent match to set us up for a chance to win. Gianni and Gokalp really played exceptional doubles today and beat a very good team.
Singles was going to be a struggle, as they have one of the strongest top three in the conference. We definitely had our chances at the bottom of the lineup, but we just couldn't make it over the hump today. We're still alive in the playoff hunt, so we'll get back to business this week and prepare ourselves for the ETSU match next weekend and the finale against Mercer."
The Black and Gold got its lone point of the day by taking the doubles point. The No. 3 doubles team of freshman
Ryan Spencer and sophomore
Michael Langel won their match 8-3 to tie the doubles point at 1-1. The sophomore duo of
Gianni Kubin and
Gokalp Ozdemir came through late in their match at the No. 2 doubles spot to pull out a 9-7 win and give the Owls the doubles point.
Kennesaw State will play its last home match of the season on Friday, April 1 against East Tennessee State.
