GREENSBORO, Ga. – After a two hour delay due to thunderstorms, the Kennesaw State men’s golf team finished round one of the Linger Longer Invitational T-4th, shooting a (291, +3). The Owls are currently tied with the University of Georgia and just seven strokes behind first place Alabama (284) and Chattanooga (284).
“I was pleased with the teams performance. It’s always good when all the guys have a chance to contribute to the scoring,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “We missed on some opportunities and struggled on the greens, but we are excited to be in the hunt and hopefully in the next two days we can claw our way up the leader board.”
The Owls were led by sophomore Ben Greene as he was the lone Owl to shoot sub-par golf (70, -2). Greene holed four birdies on the afternoon to finish in seventh in the individual medalist race and is just one-stroke behind second.
Juniors Matt Nagy and Jeff Karlsson both finished T-17th after carding a (73, +1) on the mushy grounds of the Great Waters course at Reynolds Plantation. Senior Chad Wilson and freshman Jonathan Klotz each T-30th after posting a (73, +3) apiece.
Cory Whitsett (64, -8) of Alabama leads the individual medalist race and holds a five-stroke lead over five individuals tied for second.
The Black and Gold will return to action again on Monday at 9:15 a.m. (ET) and will be partnered with No. 13 Georgia and No. 49 Charlotte.
