KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday evening when they host metro-rival Georgia State at Stillwell Stadium.
The Owls (14-9) saw their four-game winning streak snapped in Statesboro, Ga. on Tuesday night when they dropped an 8-2 decision to Georgia Southern, as the Eagles broke open a 2-2 game with a six-run eighth inning.
Georgia State (18-4) is in the midst of its best start in the program’s history and takes its nine-game winning into tonight's contest. The Panthers have also received votes in the latest USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll.
Kennesaw State will be playing the Panthers for the 13th time with the Black and Gold holding a 7-5 advantage in the series. Last season, the teams split a pair of games with Kennesaw State scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Panthers, 3-2, at Stillwell Stadium. Georgia State took a 19-9 win from the Owls at Panthersville.
Right-hander Sean Fream (1-1) takes the mound for the Owls. The junior is making his fourth start of the season and has been impressive in each of his previous starts, including back-to-back gems against No. 2-ranked Vanderbilt and Georgia, where he earned his first win of the season last Wednesday night.
Will Campbell (4-0), who shares the Colonial Athletic Association lead in victories, will get make his fifth start of the season for the Panthers. The Douglasville, Ga., native has a 3.00 earned run average and has allowed just 19 hits while striking out 20 in 30 innings of work.
The game also features a battle of reigning conference Players of the Week in the Owls Sean McClurtken and Georgia State’s Mark Micowski. McClurken claimed his first A-Sun honor after a sizzling 10-for-19 week in which he scored and had a hit in five straight games. Micowski went 11-20 in five games, with four doubles, eight RBIs and 12 runs scored to earn CAA honors.
